Fenix and the Jewel of the Bohemian Forest | 25. 10. 2010

The place well-known from the novels by Karel Klostermann and a renowned centre of year-round mountain hiking, municipality Modrava, is the last promontory of the Plzeň Region on the very tops of the Bohemian Forest (or the Šumava Mountains, as the traditional Czech name has it). Should you imagine such a place, then certainly not in connection with the latest software. But the opposite is true. Since September 2010 the administration of the municipality has been supported by the well-known system for public service – Fenix by Asseco Solutions.

It goes without saying that in the time prior to having Fenix implemented the staff of the Modrava Local Council had not written with a quill on a vellum, but they had been using another software of a mainly economic function for several years.

“Nevertheless in the course of time we came to the conclusion that the virtues of the then system were getting to lag behind the scope of our activities,” says Michaela Coufalová, Modrava Local Council Accounting Executive, who belongs to persons using the software most. “Moreover every now and then a software change can be beneficial. That´s why I proposed to the representatives of our municipality that we select a system of broader capacities,” she adds.

This selection took place at the municipality in the first half of 2010 and it was Fenix by Asseco Solutions which was chosen, also thanks to the positive experience and references from many other municipalities. The implementation of the system was completed as of 1 September 2010 and the period from this date till the end of 2010 is intended for trainings on individual modules.

“The implementation of the new system went absolutely smoothly,” says Antonín Schubert, Modrava Mayor. “The mutual readiness of our staff and the provider´s staff was exemplary and considerably facilitated the successful completion of the new system´s implementation.”

The following modules are implemented at Modrava:

  • Budget, Accounting, Reporting
  • Register of Inhabitants, Territorially-Identifying Register
  • Bank
  • Purchase Ledger
  • Property
  • Receivables and Local Fees
  • Treasury
  • Sales Book
  • Accounting of the State - Transfers

The Municipality of Modrava

Modrava is the last promontory of the Plzeň Region on the very tops of the Bohemian Forest (the Šumava Mountains). It lies at the altitude of 985 metres above the sea level on the confluence of three brooks, from which later the Vydra River comes into existence. This locality is famous thanks to the novels by Karel Klostermann.

Modrava was established as a fishing settlement, being first mentioned in 1614. From 1757 it was spreading as fishing and hunting settlement.  The change in this evolution comes after 1799, when Prince Schwarzenberg buys the extensive territory of the Prášily Domain and exploits the vast reserves of wood in the large local woods. In 1924 one of the municipality´s dominants was erected, the Klostermann Chalet, which is a historical chalet of the Club of Czech Tourists, designed by the famous architect Bohuslav Fuchs. Every visitor to Modrava also remembers the view of the celebrated Bienert Sawmill and the half-timbered hunting lodge of Prince Schwarzenberg.
